MEET ASHLEY DUNN!

Hey there! My name is Ashley Dunn, but I’m usually referred to as Dunn or Dunner because I am one of two Ashleys on the team. I'm an original townie, born and raised but intend on getting out of here post BGSU. I graduated from high school early, starting at BG in the spring of 2010 and I play defense. I rep the number 7 and plan on majoring in business- eventually I want to do something that incorporates math, art and fashion/design because I’d say those are my strengths and interests.

I’m a somewhat indecisive individual and therefore have a hard time picking “favorite” things. But, when it comes to food my favorite is Italian, especially if there’s lots of cheese involved and some type of bread on the side! I can’t pick just one movie so some of my favs are Moulin Rouge, P.S. I Love you, All the Harry Potters, and Over the Hedge. When it comes to music, I feel it’s impossible to pick just one artist or song because I love music so much and lots of different kinds but some of my favorite artists include Coldplay, The Script, and John Mayer. I can’t even attempt to say what a favorite song would be… it changes daily!

In the summer I like going to the quarry and playing sand volleyball but probably my most favorite thing to do is nap because I never have much time to during the school year.

One of the best gifts I've ever received I got recently as a graduation present. My daddy just surprised me with THE BIGGEST scrapbook I’ve ever seen- filled with every article, picture, memory, etc. from volleyball, freshman through senior year.

As I said earlier, I plan on getting out of BG after I graduate and I’m going to Greece. It is my dream destination and I am determined to get there.

One of my favorite quotes is from a song called Sooner or Later and it’s “playing in the rain is worth catching a cold.” I like it so much because it’s about taking risks- “Life is for living not living uptight!”

Thanks for taking interest in our program! Roll along!

DECADE OF DOMINANCE!

Tradition is defined as a long-established action or pattern of behavior in a community or group of people, often one that has been handed down from generation to generation. BGSU Volleyball has a strong tradition of success both on and off the court. Once again the volleyball program has been recognized for their outstanding efforts in the classroom. For the 11th time in school history and the 10th year-in-a-row the BGSU volleyball program has earned the AVCA Team Academic Award. Only 3 Division I teams have received this award more than the Falcons. The current streak of 10 consecutive years is the second longest streak in Division I Volleyball history. For more information check out the AVCA Awards page and or the BGSU Volleyball home page.

Hi, my name is Cassie Berning. I am a sophomore left side hitter from Tipp City, Ohio and my jersey number is 10. I am majoring in communication disorders. My favorite thing to eat is pineapple and my favorite drink is sweet tea. My favorite movies are August Rush, Hoosiers, and The Wedding Date. My all time favorite song is “Somewhere over the rainbow” and my favorite artist is Jason Mraz. What I love to do in the summer time, is to go to a lake and fish, jet ski, tube and just lay out. MEET KARI GALEN!

Hi! My name is Kari Galen. I am a sophomore middle (#13) from Aurora, IL, about an hour away from Chicago. I am majoring in Sport Management. Maybe when I graduate I can move back home to Chicago and work for one of the professional sports teams there (maybe the Hawks??!) which would be really awesome. My favorite food has always been anything Mexican, which means I love love love El Zarape! I also love Italian, especially Olive Garden! If I had to pick a favorite movie, I'm not sure what I'd pick...there's way too many! I love romance and comedies though. Recently, I've developed an obsession with country music and really like Lady Antebellum. I could listen to some of those songs on repeat all day! My favorite summertime activity is probably just being outside in my backyard. Whenever it's nice outside, my family and I eat dinner out there. I also love to lay out and tan, who doesn't?! I also love visiting the city. I recently went with my friend Matt from BG, and we went on a boat tour on the Chicago River and Lake Michigan, went to Navy pier, saw Buckingham fountain (it's huge!), and visited Millennium park (where the big silver bean is, there's a picture of me by the bean above) He also had his first experience eating a Chicago style deep dish pizza! It was a lot of fun. I'm hoping to get back down there to spend some time at the beach and shop down Michigan Avenue (hello, 3-story Forever 21!) with some of my old friends from high school before the summer is over. The best present I've ever gotten, hmmm....I'd probably have to say the gifts my mom sent in the mail to me for Christmas and Valentine's Day. I love little sentimental gifts and of course love getting packages at school! I also have a little sister named Hannah, and she is 9 years old. I love all the little gifts she makes for me and I hang them up in my dorm room! If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go somewhere in Europe, maybe Italy or Greece.

MEET LAUREN MIZGALSKI!

Hi! My name is Lauren Mizgalski and I'm from Stahlstown, Pennsylvania which is about an hour southeast of Pittsburgh (Yes, I'm a big Steelers fan!). I am a right side red-shirt sophomore and my number is 15. I am majoring in Apparel Merchandising and Product Development. I don't have an everyday nickname but sometimes people just call me Miz or Mizgal. My favorite type of food is sushi or anything seafood - also Starbucks coffee is a must to get my day going. It's hard to pick a favorite movie but I'll go with the classic Casablanca and Tropic Thunder because it always makes me laugh no matter how many times I've seen it! Favorite song is hard to pick, I listen to everything but country. Right now my favorite song is Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z ft Alicia Keys. My favorite summertime activities are going to the beach and I've recently taken an interest in learning to golf. The best gift I've ever received is my kitten Kizzie, she is the love of my life and she is so adorable! Also, if I could go anywhere in the world it would either be Paris, France or Milan, Italy because they are big fashion capitals. My favorite quote is by fashion designer Coco Chanel, "A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous." That's just a little bit about me and I hope everyone has a great summer! I hope to see you in the fall!

MEET NOELLE SPITLER!

Hi BG volleyball fans! My name is Noelle Spitler, but a lot of people just call me Nole. I'm a senior middle/right side, wearing the #8 jersey. I'm originally from Toledo, Ohio (only a twenty minute drive or so!) and I'm majoring in Gerontology (the study of aging) with hopes of attending grad school and receiving my degree in occupational therapy.

Now for a little more about myself. Like I said I'm from Toledo, Ohio. I attended an all girl’s school for high school and then spent my freshman year of college at Xavier University. I transferred to BG after my first year, and I couldn't have made a better choice!

When I'm not playing volleyball, I love spending time with my family and friends. I love being so close to home since I enjoy spending a lot of time there and utilizing my mom's cooking and laundry skills. I also love playing with my chocolate lab puppy, Lucy. I got her as a present and we're inseparable. I think the only thing that I could compare to my love of Lucy, would be my adoration of John Mayer. I'm probably his biggest fan, and I have an unbearably big crush on him (shh don't tell my boyfriend!). I like his quote "I'd rather be mediocre forever than great only once." I think it's really thought provoking and insightful and pertains to a lot of aspects of life.

I really should mention that my love of food and eating surpasses most of my other hobbies. My favorites are anything Italian and my mom's mashed potatoes (told you I was lucky to be close to home!). I also really like hot dogs and anything you can make on the grill.

Well, I hope you all enjoy keeping up with us on the blog. Hopefully we will see you all out this fall!!

SPAIN UPDATE #2!

Emily is on the right in the picture :).

Hi everyone! I can't believe I've been in Spain for a whole month already! Time flies when you're having fun. The last couple of weeks have been really busy but exciting of course. I finished up my two June classes last week, and this week I started my two July classes. I'm learning about Spanish civilization and the age of Cervantes now which is cool because I get to learn more about the history and culture of Spain and be here to actually experience the places and monuments that we're learning about.

I have become a HUGE fan of the Spanish soccer team who is playing in the world cup. The atmosphere after a big win is absolutely crazy here...kind of like how it will be when we beat Ohio and Miami in Anderson Arena this fall :) Also, I have learned some salsa dancing, tried churros which are delicious, and met a lot of interesting people from all over the world through an intercambio which I participated in Madrid. On Thursday we are going to the southern coast of Spain to Granada and Salobrena for the weekend since we won't be able to celebrate the Fourth of July in the U.S. I am excited to see the Alhambra and all of the beautiful cathedrals and buildings, watch Flamenco dancers, and go to the beach in the costa del sol!
