MEET LAURA AVILA!

Hi! My name is Laura Avila and I'm a freshman setter from Yorktown, IN. You'll see me wearing number 16 this year and probably hear my teammates call me "Lav" or "Av". While at Bowling Green I intend on studying to become a Physical or Occupational therapist. Both areas interest me, so it'll be interesting to see what I choose!

It was really hard to pick my favorite things, but here's what I came up with: I don't think I've met any food that I don't like. I could eat fruit snacks, trail mix, and candy all day! I enjoy listening to a wide variety of music including Owl City, Discovery, Audiodax and Lady Gaga. I love watching comedies and can recite almost every line from anchorman. Now if only I could use that talent for studying! The best present I have ever received was a necklace and earring set for my confirmation. I wear them all the time!

Over summer break I enjoy being outdoors as much as possible (soaking up all the rays I miss while in the gym!) and traveling. Last summer I went to Thailand and the Philippines with my best friend Estelle and her family. It was such a great experience and I'd love to travel in the future! My family is moving to Australia for a semester, so that looks like my next destination! Spain and Italy are two places I'd also like to visit.

My favorite quote is Jeremiah 29:11- "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

MEET KAITLYN SKINNER!

Hi! My name’s Kaitlyn Skinner, but some people call me Skinner, Skins or anything else that you can make with my last name. I am a Freshman middle, wearing jersey number 14 and I am from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, about an hour outside of Toronto. I am majoring in Biology and I’m thinking about a minor in French.

My favorite food has to be seafood and I love ice cream! But I really like almost all kinds of food. I can’t say that I have a favorite song or artist, but I like just about anything. This summer I went to a country concert and it was incredible! I love to watch movies, and I have so many favorites’! To name a few, I love the Harry Potter series, P.S. I Love You, and pretty much any other movie besides horror! In the summer, I like to play beach volleyball, hang out with friends and family and relax. One place I really want to visit is Scotland. I love the landscape and I want to tour my family’s heritage. I also used to highland dance, so it’d be fun to watch the World Championships held there in the summer!

My favorite quote is “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.” -- Eleanor Roosevelt

I’m really excited to get the season and school year started here at BG! And I can’t wait to see you all at the game! Get ready for an exciting year and an exciting final season as we close out Anderson Arena!

MEET PAIGE PENROD!

Hello BGSU fans I'm Paige Penrod from Circleville, Ohio. I have a two and a half hour drive to home. I am very proud to represent myself by wearing #12 on the court. I am a freshman and can't wait to start my season here at BGSU with my new family. I am majoring in Early Childhood Education. At the end of my senior year I am taking a few extra classes in the summer to get my 4-5 endorsement for education so I can teach 4th grade. I love kids and can't wait to start me career after volleyball. Most of the girls on the team have nicknames, but I do not :( I hope I can get one by the end of the season though! My dad is a vegan and my mom is a vegetarian, so I feel like I am a very healthy eater, but I eat chicken, so I am not a vegan or vegetarian! I love chicken broccoli alfredo, I could eat it every day! I also love ALL Adam Sandler movies! I do love romance movies thought, but what girl doesn’t?! Ha. I absolutely love rap. My favorite artists are Lil' Wayne, TI, Eminem, Young Jeezy, and Gucci Mane. I love a lot of different types of other music though. This past summer I went to my first Dave Matthews Band concert with my high school volleyball coach and I couldn't have asked for a better night! That was the best present I could ever receive in my life!! I love concerts, I could not even count how many concerts that I have been to in my life. I went to my first concert when I was three, and I can't stop now! If I could go anywhere in the world it would have to be Paris. My cousin lives there and I never get to see her and I would love to travel there someday and get to see her again. I don’t have any favorite quotes, but I love inspirational quotes a lot! I hope everyone can come and support us at our games, we love our fans!!!!

MEET DANIELLE TONYAN!

Hi! My name is Danielle Tonyan and I am from McHenry, Illinois, about an hour away from Chicago. I am one of the seven freshmen for the class starting in 2010. The team has just recently started to call me “D”, so looks like that’s what you can call me. I strut the jersey number 5 on the team and play the right side position. After I graduate in 2014, I am going to be a special education teacher.

I rarely watch movies, but I do have a few favorites. Remember the Titans is number one for sure, then of course Mean Girls, then The Notebook, then last is Benchwarmers. But when it comes to music, I have an open mind. I’m not huge into listening to music, but I’ll listen to anything.

I AM NOT PICKY AT ALL WHEN IT COMES TO FOOD! I like everything. Food is just delicious. My new obsession is peanut butter and bananas. It’s seriously is so good! I’m big on sweets, yes, ice cream and Oreos are great, and they are even better together.

This summer was a blast for me. I spent like two weeks at the beach in Florida and attended a few concerts like Dave Mathews Band and Slightly Stoopid. I love to lay out in the sun and just have a good time with friends. Swimming and boating are a BLAST as well. Family is a big part of my life since we are all so close. If I could go anywhere in the world I would backpack through Europe and revisit my family in Germany. I would taste every food possibly in all these countries!

The best present I have ever received was Coach Denise Van De Walle asking me to be a Falcon on my birthday! I will never forget that day, and I don’t think she will either J Hope to see you all in the fall!

MEET LIBBY DACHENHAUS!

Move in for BGSU students starts today. The team is helping students move into the resident halls right now. I thought this would be an appropriate time to have the rest of our incoming freshmen start to introduce themselves. We will go numerically starting with Libby...

Hi! My name is Libby Dachenhaus and I'm a freshman defensive specialist. I am from Toledo, Ohio and live just a few blocks away from my teammate Noelle! I'll be wearing the #1 jersey this season and am an Applied Health Science major with plans to attend grad school and become a Physician's Assistant. I went to an all girl's catholic high school so food, movies, boys, and music were always the topics of discussion. I just love food in general. I usually snack on fresh fruit and goldfish and I absolutely love Mexican and Italian, so you may see me around at El Zarape :) One of my all time favorite movies to quote is Mean Girls but I also enjoy watching Finding Nemo, Pirates of the Caribbean, Baby Mama, and Remember the Titans. I'm also down for a scary movie every once in a while. I'm not very picky when it comes to music because my mood usually influences what I listen to. My i-pod is currently home to a lot of Dave Matthews, The Fray, Aerosmith, Missy Higgins, Eminem, and Kid Cudi. I'm not much of a country fan, but I'm sure Herzberg will try to change that.

I also like to travel. I've spent the past two spring breaks playing volleyball in Europe with my club team. I've played in Italy where we visited Venice and Rome (the pizza there is truly amazing) and have visited Paris, Amsterdam, and a few smaller cities in Germany and Belgium. I loved the relaxed European lifestyle and gorged myself on all of the delicious food. I would go back in a heartbeat! In the summer, I enjoy getting some sun by the pool and spending time with family and friends. There is nothing better than a summer cook-out with people you care about. One of my favorite quotes to think about when I'm down is from "The Remedy" by Jason Mraz: "you can turn off the sun but I'm still gonna shine"

VOLLEYBALL SEASON IS HERE...CHECK IT OUT - 35 FOR 35! :)

With the hectic schedule of pre-season – I have been absent from the blog. :( Sorry about that. There is so much going on right now, I do not know where to begin. We have a lot of freshmen on the squad and the energy level in the gym is awesome! This is one team that you will want to see play. Lindsey Butterfield and Ashley Dunn joined the squad last spring and you have already read about them on the blog. Over the next couple of weeks we will get the 5 other freshmen to introduce themselves on the blog. This year we are selling season tickets for just $35 in honor of the 35 years that Anderson Arena has been the home of Falcon Volleyball. This is part of the year-long “Closing The Doors Of The House That Roars” celebration. For more information, go to bgsufalcons.com. Check back often for updates!

MEET LINDSEY BUTTERFIELD!

Butter is on the right in the picture below:

Hi!! I’m Lindsey Butterfield and I am from Springfield, Ohio. It is near Dayton. I am only about thirty to forty-five minutes away from Kauth and Berning. I am currently an outside hitter sporting the #11 Jersey and a freshman. I started BGSU in the spring to train and knock some classes out of the way. I am majoring in Biology in the Pre-Dentistry Program. The team and coaches call me BUTTER. Susie and Noelle are fond of calling me butt-hair. I'm not a fan. Butterfield yields some pretty interesting names. Food is extremely important in my life. I will eat any of the following any time of the day: Hot Tamales (candy), Oreos, Cream of Wheat with brown sugar, Luna Bars, and pretty much anything chocolate.

I do not watch a lot of movies because I fall asleep really easily and never make it to see the end. I do have some favs though: The Wedding Date, Avatar, and any of the Harry Potter Movies are top notch. As far as music goes, I am pretty open to anything EXCEPT country. Unfortunately Herzberg loves country and I am forced to listen to it every time I am with her. In the summer I love to go on my friend’s boat at the lake to tube and swim. Lying out in the sun is not something I enjoy because I never tan and only end up looking like a lobster. The best present I have ever received was a real horse for Christmas wrapped in ribbons. His name was Prince and I showed him for a few years. The best present I have given is a puppy.

I love to travel and have been to Italy and Switzerland. If I could go anywhere in the world, it would be Greece and Grand Cayman. They just seem to be so perfect. Over the summer, I will be attending a Dave Matthews Concert. It is one of my favorite things to do in the summer because a group of about 20 of us go every year!! He gives me a quote to live my life by, "Celebrate we will, cause life is short but sweet for certain". That's just a little about me and hopefully you will learn more about my personality watching our matches. I can be a bit out of control : ) GO FALCONS!!!

“Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and never succeed. (Proverbs 12:24)”
